Guelph Wedding Venue | Barn Swallow Fields | Colleen & Henry

A Memorable Guelph Wedding Venue | Barn Swallow Fields

After our initial consult call, I knew I had to work with Colleen & Henry for their wedding day. Their laid back energy and overall excitement for the day had me just as excited to be celebrating with them — dream clients! Their celebration started at Church of Our Lady in Guelph, ON for the ceremony — which is stunning itself with the sun streaming in through the stained glass and the gorgeous arched ceilings. Following the ceremony we all shuttled over to Barn Swallow Fields for some fun portraits around the property (a wedding photographer’s dream with all the options), and one of the most fun receptions I’ve ever been to! One thing we bonded over very early on is our shared love for craft beers and their plan to curate a custom beer list for the reception — so you know I had to indulge a little bit in the evening (don’t worry I had my partner come to pick me up after)!

My Advice for this Venue:

  1. Consider your buffet table/head table set up. The space is limited to where you can comfortably fit a long buffet table and it usually ends up near the back windows facing the fields. This not only disrupts the beautiful view but the buffet workers often end up getting in the background of a lot of your photos because they are situated behind the main table. Make sure you consider this if you are planning a buffet set up.

  2. Don’t skip sunset portraits! This location is so ideal to capture photos at sunset with the big open field and the gorgeous tree line. Even slipping out for 10-15 minutes in between courses is VERY doable and so worth it.

  3. Organize a shuttle to & from Guelph. With this location being so close to the city of Guelph it’s easy for your guests coming from out of town to find a place to stay in a local hotel. Colleen & Henry organized a couple shuttle pick ups going into the evening to transport guests to and from the city. This is great for keeping people safe after a night of drinking and it is super accommodating for those out of towners needing a place to stay close by.

About Barn Swallow Fields

Located in the countryside of Eramosa/Guelph is Barn Swallow Fields at Thatcher Farms. A stunning Guelph wedding venue renowned for its rustic charm and natural beauty. Founded by Dana Thatcher, with a commitment to preserving the land's heritage through her love of agriculture, this venue offers couples acres of lush farm fields and fresh air just a step outside the city — also a stunning sunflower field during peak summer months!

The Bin Bar

One of the standout features of Barn Swallow Fields was the farm silo, turned cocktail bar — also known as the Bin Bar. This beautiful outdoor space surrounded by a large drooping willow tree is perfect for guests to gather, sip a cocktail and mingle before the reception.

For those craving fresh air and stunning views, the outdoor patio is also filled with Muskoka chairs & an optional fire pit to provide the perfect setting to soak up the sun and fresh country air. Additionally, their is a lot of open space next to the cocktail area if you want to set up lawn games or other activities.

The Barn

As someone who loves a little rustic charm & classic antique furniture — this Guelph venue was a dream! Inside, guests are greeted by exposed wooden beams and antique furnishings, creating a feeling of warmth and history. The cathedral ceilings create an airy atmosphere, while the expansive barn doors open to the surrounding fields to let in that beautiful summer breeze — a perfect mix of indoor and outdoor.

This brand new build was designed with a neutral palette in mind to suit many couple’s needs. You can also customize the space with personal touches, from floral arrangements to table settings. Additionally, with its large and versatile space you can easily work with Dana to set up the tables & chairs that suit your needs — whether that means a classic table layout or harvest style.

Catering Options

As a family owned business of farmers, Barn Swallow Fields has a passion for sustainability, agriculture and supporting local farms. As a result, they work exclusively with Indulge Catering to provide fresh, farm-sourced meals — and let me tell you from first hand experience, the quality is phenomenal. If you have any guests with dietary restrictions or allergies, they are more than willing to accommodate & help you curate the wedding menu of your dreams.
